Functional Work

My functional works are a sustained focus on form, texture, and playful imagery using the splitting aesthetics of warm, reduction-fired stoneware and soft, clean, porcelaneous clay bodies. I explore the human desire to fidget, touch, and fully know the objects that we interact with on a daily basis by using repetitive textural elements and leather cord stitching to enhance the vessels’ tactile qualities. Additionally, I use underglaze chalks to treat the surface of works with childlike imagery as a way to reconnect to play.
