The Space Within, The Space Without

The Space Within, The Space Without is comprised of a reduction-fired ceramic vessel with interior shelving. The recesses of the vessel are filled with dead remains, mostly bugs, some of which are preserved within sealed bottles and some are laid out in the open. The bottom of the vessel is packed with soft materials, and most of the open areas have been sewn into with distressed leather cord. The vessel is nested into what remains of the leather cord sutures.

The Space Within, The Space Without engenders questions such as: What sits within the deepest parts of the body? What innermost parts of the self are protected over all else? What is left behind?
